TEACHERS TEACHING TEACHERS
The History Project at UC Davis provides professional learning for teachers in the greater Sacramento region by bringing together scholars and teachers to improve history-social science education and develop an informed, engaged, and literate citizenry.
Our professional learning programs respond to the needs of teachers and local educational agencies in order to strengthen teacher capacity and develop teacher leadership. The ultimate goal of our programs is to increase the content knowledge and discipline-specific literacy and thinking skills of all students through inquiry-based instruction. Our programs are aligned to the 2016 History-Social Science Curriculum Framework for California Public Schools, the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, and the California English Language Development Standards.
The History Project provides a space for all history-social science teachers, from credential candidates to veterans, to engage in high-quality professional learning. Teacher participants will experience a collaborative, scholarly environment, where they learn from and with other teachers, graduate students, and scholars to improve their practice.
We offer customized professional learning for specific schools and districts, as well as school-year workshops and summer institutes that are open to all teachers.
The History Project is proud to be part of the UC Davis Department of History. As one of several History Projects across the state, we are part of the state-wide California History-Social Science Project and a member of the larger network of the discipline-specific sites known as the California Subject Matter Projects commissioned by the California State Legislature.
